Kick Off For New Homes in Moor Green
A major new housing scheme is set to kick off at the site of the former Moor Green Football Club in Hall Green
Birmingham Planning Committee today approved a scheme of more than 80 new homes and a substantial amount of public open space in Sherwood Road, Hall Green. This has followed the successful pursuit of an application for David Wilson Homes Mercia. The scheme will result in major contributions to the local community including the provision of a new school playing pitch for Hall Green Junior and Infant Schools and improved local sports facilities for the general area.
A mix of two and three-storey open market houses and apartments will be built on the site together with a high proportion of affordable units. The site has sat unused for some years, since the relocation of Moor Green FC. The Club was facing problems when it decided to release its ground to help fund a joint endeavour with Solihull Borough to form Solihull Moors FC.
The new scheme will mean that the redundant and derelict site will be brought back into beneficial use while also offering social benefits to the greater community in the form of the sporting provision. The developers, part of Barratt Development Plc, are providing funds to improve open space and provision of changing facilities at Highfield Hall, in Hall Green.
While this site was never in the public realm it was considered to be an important local facility. The re-use of the site as now approved by Members is a positive way forward.
