Kings Norton Co-Operative Gets the Green Light

Planning consent has been granted by Birmingham City Council for a new Co-operative store in the heart of Kings Norton, Birmingham.

Central England Co-operative is proposing an exciting new development to include a local food convenience unit together with an ancillary retail unit and first floor living accommodation in the form of three apartments.

The design will see the replacement of the existing flat roof extensions with a building which would be more sympathetic to the surrounding Conservation Area in which it lies. Dedicated car parking will be provided on the site together with off road delivery and vehicle turning space. With enhanced landscaping and pedestrian access, especially to the Pershore Road South being provided.

The intention is to retain, extend and enhance the existing building, which does not meet modern retail and commercial needs, to provide new retail space. The site’s appearance, particularly onto The Green, would be substantially improved. Whilst the historic Pershore Road South frontage, replicating the original store which opened in 1935, will be reintroduced.
