Planning Consultant Required – Birmingham

 

JOB PURPOSE:

We have an excellent and exciting opportunity for a permanent Planner / Senior Planner to join our team. Brooke Smith Planning has an impressive client base with projects throughout the UK reflecting all planning issues. We require a Chartered or soon to be Chartered planner to help clients through the complexities of the planning and development management process.

MAIN DUTIES:

The successful candidate will deal with site appraisals; applications from pre-application stage to post-determination stage, through to appeals; together with policy and site representations as part of the plan making process.

Working as part of a highly experienced and professional team you will be expected to provide general planning advice to clients; work on / manage a range of schemes; and developing client relationships. Providing high quality support to more senior members of the team will also be expected.

Whilst the successful candidate will initially be assisting they will be expected to progress to managing new planning instructions and their own workload that will become increasingly complex over time.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake conscientious research and provide verbal and written advice to clients which will include formulating proposals, strategies and programmes and to progress development proposals through the planning process.

Co-ordinating the work of and management of external consultants / architects and the effective time management and timely delivery of cases will be expected, as will regular client liaison and sensitive liaison with third parties.

The above list summarises the main responsibilities to the role but is not exhaustive. The successful candidate may be required to carry out additional tasks dependant on the nature and requirements of the case in hand.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

You will need to be, or soon be a Chartered Member of the RTPI or RICS (Planning and Development) and ideally have approximately 2 years’ private sector experience.

Candidates with current local authority experience will be considered but will need to demonstrate previous private sector experience or a strong commercial acumen

You must be able to successfully manage competing demands, be self-motivated and a team player. You will also need to be a good oral and written communicator and have excellent interpersonal skills.

The holding of a full UK driving licence would be advantageous.
