History

Brooke Smith Planning, now an Arcadis company, was originally founded in 1994, as Brooke Smith Associates.

After growing and establishing a national client base, in 2004 it merged with CSJ Planning in Bristol and renamed the Birmingham office as CSJ Brooke•Smith. In 2005 the Practice entered the RTPI top ten list of independent planning consultancies. In 2009 the combined Bristol and Birmingham offices were shortlisted for the RTPI Planning Consultancy of the Year.

Caseload and staff numbers expanded and new offices were taken in Edgbaston.

In 2010, the two sections, CSJ Planning in Bristol and CSJ Brooke Smith in Birmingham, became two separate limited companies and in January 2011, the Birmingham office rebranded as Brooke Smith Planning.

In 2010, Brooke Smith Planning received a commendation from the RTPI National Planning Awards and in 2011 was a finalist in the national RTPI Small Planning Consultancy of the Year award, and won the West Midlands Planning Consultancy of the Year award. Following this success, the Practice was a finalist in the 2012/13, 2014 and 2016 national Small Planning Consultancy of the Year awards.

The Practice continued to grow in terms of client base and areas of expertise and in March 2017 was acquired by Arcadis, the global multi-disciplinary consultancy for the built environment.
